New resources to support psychological safety in mental health workplaces

10th October 2024

In recognition of this year’s Mental Health Month theme, ‘Let’s talk about it’, Mental Health Coordinating Council is launching two new resources with actions for workers and leaders to foster a psychologically safe workplace where everyone can voice their concerns without fear of negative consequences. Designed specifically for mental health settings, these free resources include important considerations to support workers with lived experience.

NSW Government’s response to Mental Health Inquiry recommendations lacking new initiatives

10th September 2024

Out of 39 recommendations from the Mental Health Inquiry report on outpatient and community mental health care in New South Wales, the NSW Government has supported 24 without significant additional funding. Mental Health Coordinating Council urgently call on the NSW Government to develop a clear and meaningful plan to address the recommendations that will improve access, equity and sustainability for the community mental health sector.

Health Minister Meeting a step forward for mental health reforms

On Friday 16 August, Health and Mental Health Ministers from all states, territories and the Australian Government convened in Sydney for a pivotal meeting to discuss the key issues affecting Australia's mental health system and explore options for reform.

Government responds to Disability Royal Commission recommendations

7th August 2024

The Australian Government, along with all states and territories, released a much-anticipated response to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. Out of the 172 recommendations that fall under the Australian Government's primary or shared responsibility with states and territories, 13 were accepted.

New report from mental health and AOD symposium highlights the critical need for systemic reform

Statistics show that nearly 50% of mental health service users and up to 85% of AOD service users experience co-occurring harms. Mental Health Coordinating Council and the Network of Alcohol and Drug Agencies' Collaborative Connections Symposium Report highlights the significant challenges hindering integrated practice, and puts forth six key recommendations to better support people with co-occuring needs.

CEO & Senior Managers Forum 2024
