Submission in Brief: Inquiry into Supported Decision-Making for adults with disability and older people in NSW

Adults living with disability and older people have the right to make decisions about their own lives, but NSW systems do not always support this in practice. Mental Health Coordinating Council has welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the NSW Joint Parliamentary Committee’s Inquiry into Supported Decision-Making.

Budget Estimates hearings provide an important opportunity for Parliament to review government expenditure and examine how systems are responding to the needs of the community. On 4 March 2026, the NSW Minister for Mental Health, the Hon. Rose Jackson MLC, appeared before the NSW Parliament’s Budget Estimates Committee, where members of Parliament questioned the Government on a range of issues affecting mental health services across the state.

Mental health and AOD workers unite in Maitland to improve support for people with co-occuring needs
