Care Beyond Crisis: The case for community-based mental health care

22 September 2026 — 10:30am
Location:

Online via Zoom

In NSW, an estimated 80% of people who need psychosocial support outside the NDIS are missing out.

Demand for mental health support services continues to grow, yet too many people are unable to access the community-based care they need before reaching crisis.

As NSW looks towards the 2027 State Election, what needs to change to ensure people can access the mental health support they need, when and where they need it?

Join Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) for Care Beyond Crisis: The case for community-based mental health care, an online sector briefing exploring what we are hearing from the community-managed mental health sector, the challenges facing the system and their impact on people living with mental health challenges, and where change is needed.

We’ll share MHCC’s three priorities for the 2027 NSW Election, introduce the growing evidence base for community-based mental health care, and outline practical ways you can help strengthen the call for change.

The briefing will also include a recognition of lived experience from a community mental health worker, reflecting on their own experience and the importance of support beyond crisis.
