Recovery Oriented Language Guide: Quick Reference

Words are important. The language we use and the stories we tell have great significance to all involved.

We may be unaware of how the words we use reflect our attitudes and impact those around us. Words can affect a person’s sense of self and make them feel included or excluded. They can convey hope and optimism or a sense of pessimism and low expectations.

We’ve developed a printable Quick Reference guide to help you and others begin to change the conversation around mental health.
