This course enables participants to gain foundational knowledge and skills about working in and with the health and community services sector. 

Course overview

Introduction to Health and Community Services is an accredited, short course providing foundational knowledge and skills in the health and community services sector. The course provides an introduction to vocational education and training. It is a pathway into our Certificate IV courses.

What you will learn

During this course, you will explore how to:

  • Identify the types of health and community services
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other services
  • Identify and work according to legal and ethical responsibilities in work roles
  • Contribute to the improvement of workplaces and services
  • Work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations
  • Develop skills for self-reflection and understanding
Who should enrol

The Introduction to Community Services course is for anyone who would like to gain skills and knowledge for working in and with the health and community services sector and further explore their learning and work opportunities.

Units of competence

The Introduction to Community Services course consists of three units of competency:

CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people

On completion of the course, participants are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent in.

The following units from this short course can be used as credit transfer into the Mental Health Coordinating Council CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health and CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work full courses:
