Professional Development Series - Half day introduction

Gain real confidence in responding to suicide


On average, there are more than six deaths by suicide in Australia each day. Men are more than 3 times more likely to die by suicide than women and Indigenous communities have an even higher risk.

This half day intensive refresher is designed to strengthen prior learning and experience around working with someone at risk of suicide.

Participants will gain a strong understanding of the role of recovery and other approaches play when working with people experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviours.

This workshop is highly relevant for organisations wanting to increase and support consumer participation at all levels. Organisation/service types include:

Entry Requirements

Participants must have completed one of the following prerequisites to be eligible for this workshop:

  • MHCC Assess Respond to Suicide workshop, OR
  • Other suicide prevention training

Pre Reading

As this training is a half day workshop, pre-reading is required so that participants can get as much out of the material presented as possible. As this is a refresher course, much of what is contained in the pre-reading will only be touched on in the training, as well as presenting current approaches. Some knowledge of assessing and responding to suicide is presumed. Pre-reading materials will be provided on enrolment.
